Alcohol Addiction Health Risks

One of the ways in which you can tell if you have an alcohol addiction or not is if you suffer from some of the various health risks of alcohol. The impact that alcohol can have on the organs can sometimes be very dangerous. Malnutrition is also a common problem. In fact, if a pregnant woman has an alcohol addiction problem or is looking to be pregnant she could be putting the health of her baby at risk.

While it might be true that the side effects of drinking alcohol are not going to be prevalent if it is being taken in moderation, an alcohol addiction can also cause the effects to be incredibly dangerous. For example, the organs in the body can become seriously affected through the use of alcohol. Cirrhosis of the liver is one of the most notable impacts that can be caused through alcohol abuse. This is where the liver has received a high amount of alcohol and as a result will not be able to break down fatty acids that enter the body. Those acids will then settle into the liver and prevent oxygen from ever reaching there. The liver cannot be repaired from any of the damages of cirrhosis.

Malnutrition is a common side effect of alcohol abuse. While an alcoholic drink will suppress the appetite of the drinker it will not contain any nutritional value because the calories are mostly empty. Also, when alcohol is taken in the body, it will then not be able to process the nutrients that it will need to process following ingestion.

If a woman has an alcohol addiction and is going to be getting pregnant she will be likely to create some irreperable damages on her baby. Foetal alcohol syndrome, can, for example, occur. This is where the foetus will be impacted both mentally and physically during its development.

There are various other side effects of alcohol abuse. An increased risk of cancer is quite common in people who abuse alcohol. An increased side of heart disease and blood pressure will also be present, and you will also be likely to encounter kidney failure if you abuse alcohol. Memory loss and dementia is also known to be common in people who abuse alcohol.

The last thing to know about alcohol addiction is that in the later stages of alcoholism you might have your organs damaged to a point where they cannot be repaired. Therefore, if you feel that you may have felt some of the health risks of alcohol then you should consult a doctor or alcohol abuse hotline immediately for assistance.

It can be dangerous to have an alcohol addiction. The health risks of alcohol can be very dangerous and are deadly in many cases. By knowing these health risks you will be able to take care of the problem of alcohol abuse and keep your body from ever being affected.
